The British Home Art Exhibition 2010

Fish Frames are proud sponsors of the British Home's Annual Art Exhibition.  On Thursday 8th July, we were invited to the Private View of the Exhibition at The Home in Crown Lane, Streatham. Fish Frames has been involved with The Home's framing requirements for three to four years now, and it has been an absolute pleasure for us to have done their framing and helped them with their art exhibitions.

This year was the third art exhibition and coincided with extremely hot weather.  This did not stop visitors coming to admire and buy.  The Resident artists always enjoyed being able to mingle and chat with possible buyers and this year was no exception.  Kelly Scott’s tapestries were much admired as were the eco bags which have become more ornate, having been decorated with ladybirds and bees.

The British Home is an independent charity that provides specialised nursing and social care for people with long term medical conditions and severe disabilities. The British Home accommodates up to 122 adults of all ages and diverse backgrounds.

Whenever I have visited The Home, I am struck by how all the residents, with varying degrees of disability, all seem so happy and settled, with good camaraderie with the staff, and to top it all the place is absolutely spotless.  Very good vibe there.

Hot on the heels of The Home’s exhibition came the Urban Art fair.  This is London’s largest open air art show and took place (thanks to the residents living there) in Josephine Avenue, Brixton on Saturday and Sunday 17-18 July from 10am-6pm.  150 artists took part and on the Sunday the artists involved donated 10% of their takings to local charities, one of which this year was The British Home. It was quite an experience looking at all the art hung on the railings!  And the British Home girls looked very fetching in their leopard skin tops on their stand!
