The British Home has been looking after people who are severely disabled since 1861. During that time The Home has acquired a great many pictures, most of which are prints, but a few have been created by residents. Over the past four years Lynn MacAskill has been helping to restore some of these pictures to their former glory. As The Friends of The British Home raise the money, Lynn has happily taken on the task of choosing complimentary, colours, frames and textures to enhance each picture. The pictures she has worked on are now back on the walls, protected behind glass and hung at a height that residents in wheelchairs are able to see and admire.

The Home held its first Art Exhibition in 2008 allowing residents to display and sell their paintings, needlework and sculptures; aided and encouraged by Lynn’s expertise it proved to be a great success. The most significant factor of the exhibition has been the dialogue created between the artists and the general public who have visited the exhibition. Without the professional expertise that Lynn brought to the exhibition it would not have become the annual event it now is, nor would it have attracted the following it now has. Lynn’s work and eye for detail has enhanced the walls of The British Home and will do so for many years to come. Her interest in the art produced by the residents of The Home has given them an opportunity to display their talents to the outside world in a professional way.

The British Home would highly recommend Fish Frames with Lynn MacAskill at the helm, our pictures now look tremendous.

From emails:

Lynn, Just to say once again a hearty "thank you" for doing such a marvellous job on the frames for my great grandmother and her original singing certificates from 1871. I'm glad I took the plunge, as it were. They haven't always been taken care of [as we discussed] - thinking about it I can only surmise the woodworm came from my grandfather's garage!

The certificates in particular are now "readable" - before one was too worried about broken glass going everywhere.  I   enjoy and take real pleasure in having them around.

Regards, Ruth A (March 2009)

Hi Lynn

Fantastic - couldn't be any more pleased at the job you have done, especially the float mounted piece which is absolutely stunning when on the wall.   Thank you & will no doubt be in touch for some more work soon.
