Fine Art Trade Guild's Framing Competition 2007
Lynn MacAskill is a finalist, for the second year running, in the Fine Art Trade Guild's Free-Thinking Framing Competition for 2007. The Art & Framing Industry Awards are being held at the Shaw Theatre in London on Saturday 12th May, when Lynn will find out if she is the winner.
The theme this year for the ‘Free-Thinking’ themed piece award was ‘Bridges’ with framers creating an attractive framed piece using artwork or objets trouvés that in their opinion effectively represented the theme, to comply with the Guild Five Levels of Framing.
Lynn decided to look on Ebay for inspiration and found lots of different objects that were bridges, for example, a violin bridge, bridge pins and bridge fridge magnets. She then placed a selection on mountboard in the shape of a bridge and enhanced the bridge look by cutting ‘suspension wires’ from pieces of mountboard. This was framed with a deep-rebated gunmetal grey frame, which complemented the industrial look. So she had bridges in the shape of a bridge. She said, ‘Half the fun of my piece is that you have to work out what some of the bridge objects are, but I put a key on the back to help the judges out!’
